1955 and with the need to still export as much as possible ten years after WW2, the demand for almost any sort of car was still high. Check the Minor, still at list price - was car purchase tax in 1955 set at 40%? The Ruby (with its "re-con" engine) would, today - in comparable purchasing power - be £2454.

I was tempted to put on the car's screen "Free tray of buns with this car" - but though it might spoil the picture for those enthusiastic Ruby owners who want to commission a 1.5 m x 2m display for their garage wall.
