It's about half a pint. Fill it to the drain/level hole and then let it drip overnight before sealing.

I thought the general opinion was now that a lesser level courts less trouble, esp on cars with original seals. If the car is jacked so the filler falls conveniently below the petrol tank the level is moderated

I use a 'squirty 'oil can dedicated to SAE 140 for filling the rear axle. The nozzle goes into the axle past the crownwheel (just) making sure the oil goes into the axle and not on the garage floor.

Whilst in Halfords yesterday I looked at a can of their Classic 20/50 oil and noted it claimed to be a low detergent oil.
