Aluminium welding
#1
Morning all. my 1928 coil crankcase has a crack in the bell-housing.

Can anyone recommend a company to repair it?

Regards from the creative county - Staffordshire

Hi Stuart,
Ron Cutler, welder of Selly Oak ,Birmingham 07973 675476. Made a superb job of welding my crankcase. A crack formed just below the top surface. almost trying to pull the top out. He welded on the inside, vee'd the outside and welded it, then put a "pretty" weld on top "as it would be seen"

Hi Stuart. I am similarly afflicted.  I was going to talk with Chase Engines of Silverdale. They have done good work for me in the past and advertise a cold metal spraying process to repair aluminium. I’ll let you know how I go on.

Probably not convenient for you but Ollie Mullard who trades as 'Olliminum' at Bicester Heritage can only be described as a 'magician' when it comes to aluminium welding; his work is truly amazing. He's the chap who is in the process of building a V8 Austin 7 engine using two A7 crankcases welded together.

Hello, many thanks for the replies, geographically they are all within comfortable traveling distance so I'll start making enquiries and report back.

What exactly is the crack in the bellhousing?
I had cracks on both starter motor retaining holes which I had tigged up by a friend (who happens to work for a well known specialist restoration company) so it can be done.

I'll also vouch that Ollie is a decent bloke!
