Steering box advice
#11
Howard, I absolutely love that idea and I 100% am going to implement it!

As for the chassis straightening, if I ever have reason to take the body off I will attempt to straighten it.  As it stands now I have a good solid car with no rot and really on the verge of being back on the road, so I'm loth to start taking it back apart again.

I actually work on the railways as a wagon maintainer, we have heaps of old clamps and tools, I think I might have seen something similiar to that pictured in one of our containers.

Steve, I appreciate that comment, and I'll bear that in mind after road testing the car.  When I bought the car there was no play at the wheel at all, but the steering was horribly heavy when moving and darted all over the road.  After overhauling the box I've readjusted it to have no free play and it does feel much lighter now, but if it's still darting all over the road I will try loosening it off a touch.
To be fair, I've driven LDV's for years and they drive best with a couple of inches of free play at the wheel.
