Austin 7 Scuttle-mounted headlamps
#1
Dare you drive your A7 with scuttle-mounted headlamps? The iPhone video makes it look very much lighter than it was. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqG5aeKkc48 and  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNMqtgaBdYA

Yes, straight answer. But I live on the Isle of Man and in the far north thereof where traffic is thankfully very light (if you'll pardon the pun).

The LED bulbs that are focused within the bulb that the white car has fitted are amazing. I've seen it running in the dark and also the owner's Father's Chummy equiped with similar bulbs. The improvement over traditional bulbs needs to be seen to be believed.

Yes, they are excellent and I can recommend them. They have main and dip beams and no need for a reflector in good condition. But, they do require a double-contact bulb holder, with these being suitable, No.4 on the list "BA15d" with level pins https://www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk/...%20holders
Of course, it means cutting out the old single-contact holders and soldering or "Aralditeing" in the new. To get the correct beam pattern, the bulbs have a black line on the body that needs to be at the top. So, when fitting the bulb holders, it's important to sure that they're positioned correctly. A final adjustment can be made by slackening two small socket-headed screws and the body rotated slightly. You also need to establish which contact is main and which dip - I had one the wrong way round....
The clearer the headlamp glass, the more exact the beam pattern. One of my cars has heavily dimpled glass that scatters the bean; the other is much clearer and the pattern very much better.
