Clutch thrust race
#1
So i have my clutch thrust race out of the car. It doesnt seem too bad but y'all said replace it. So does the whole thing get replaced or is it just the baring? How do i get it out? Also I didnt want to pull the clutch out so i stuck a allen key in the space where the friction material is and it was a little smaller than 1/8 inch. Is that enough to warrant replacement? I would think thats still good but im no expert. Any help would be very great.

When you’ve got it that far apart it’s not much more work (a few bolts) to take the clutch to bits and check the thickness properly. Much easier to replace now of it’s warranted.

Hi

Agree with Charles.  Taking the clutch apart is a relatively quick job and you can better check that the rivet’s aren’t protruding.

Assuming your release bearing has not been changed for a later 4 speed….

There are two holes on the back face of the bearing carrier that you can use to punch out the bearing.

On the front face of the carrier there are three slots for the toggles.  The face of the bearing wears at the bottom of these slots.  In this photo the base of three slots has been brazed up and subsequently worn back. Three new slots have been cut.  An alternative is to fit a hard steel ring in the bearing face.

Hope this helps

Howard

Replace it with a 4spd release bearing assy so it doesn't rotate all the time the engine is running, attached photo off bearing fitted and conversion.
Terry.  Note Ignore any ref: to Renault this is for a race clutch.
