NEW REAR BRAKE SHOES
#1
Hi All
Is it possible to buy complete new rear brakes shoes?, by that I mean shoes complete with lining and cam shims.( 1927 1 inch shoe)
I was about to get mine relined to complement the recently purchased cast iron brake drums (Tony Betts) and discovered apart from shot linings and shims the shoes themselves differ from n/s to o/s.
N/s are marked as Birmal and look newer than the o/s marked as XLI398.
Question is does this matter ?
I was thinking it would be just as easy to buy new complete shoes however I am struggling to find a supplier.
Many thanks
Paul

New manufacture brake shoes have not been made since forever. The 1" shoes are relatively common, early versions (1926-7) are marked XL, later ones (1928 - 32) 1A. You'll need to find some decent examples, they come up on eBay quite often, otherwise Tony Betts or one of the specialists may be able to help.

Replacement steel caps used to be available to repair the end where the cam bears, don't know whether they are still made?
