sectioned block photos? and clearing studs & holes
#1
Has anyone cut up a block to see the inner water channels properly? I know the N/S water route above the valve chest has been discussed in the last year, but I started thinking about it again when clearing out the water holes and stud holes across the block surface. Someone has drilled out and plugged one of the manifold studs to redrill correct size, but thus fully obstructed the channel from above.

Across the valved side from left the right, I'm assuming:

1. front corner stud - must be blind and run nowhere... or does it go full depth of rail above valve chest?

2. and 3. water channel - clean through any obstruction below to depth of the cavity

4a. centre tiny water hole. Clear any stud visible to depth.
4b. head stud behind it - blind?

5. and 6. water channel - clean through any obstruction below

7. back corner stud - same as 1.

Hi jonE,

I sectioned a few, when we were designing and testing the new block.

I wouldn't worry about the exhaust.

There are far worse problems in old blocks.

Posted before but this shows the silting up problem around the water jacket.

that is useful to see thanks. Would be interesting to see the cross section through the chimneys going up and on into the head... but I can see that it's going to be sensible to clear them as much as I can.
