YouTube channels of interest
#1
Sorry, I stole that other posts title but since I suggested it I should start I suppose.

We all know TV is dreadful so here are some YouTube channels I enjoy that are mostly car or mechanically based. Most people will know a lot of these I am sure, I mean who on earth doesn't know about Project Binky, but maybe we'll find some others that aren't so well known.

Remember these are car based channels mainly.

Bad Obsession Motorsport: https://www.youtube.com/c/BadObsessionMotorsport/videos
Let's put project Binky at the start then. 2 chaps stuffing the running gear from a Toyota Celica into a Mini. They have a certain style to their films that has remained remarkably consistent and entertaining over the years. It's a very interesting project and these guys know what they are doing and explain it all very well. If you like to see a well made, over designed bracket then you look here.

Ivan's shed: https://www.youtube.com/c/IvansShed/about
A new one for me and he has little content yet but what there is is good. Some pre war content with an old Salmson. Thanks Atho for telling me about this one recently.

HubNut: https://www.youtube.com/c/HubNut/videos
Another UK bloke in a shed (in Wales) with some interesting old cars. He's definitely an amateur and I do worry that sometimes the channel is playing on that a bit much sometimes but very entertaining.

Furious Driving: https://www.youtube.com/c/furiousdriving/videos
Another UK bloke in a shed. He quite animated, I often refer to the channel as furious wanking, but again entertaining as he is just an amateur chap figuring things out himself.

I Drive A Classic: https://www.youtube.com/c/idriveaclassic/videos
A lass in Yorkshire (I think?) who reviews old cars. Her format is always the same but she reviews some interesting cars. Always makes me think it's like a show of car reviews done by Nurse Gladys Emmanuel (and she does own a Morris Minor).

Cold War Motors: https://www.youtube.com/user/coldwarmotors/videos
A chap and his friends based in Alberta, Canada who do a 1 hour 'show' each week about their old car projects. This one is done more show like with regular segments they do and it is very entertaining. Just the right mix at the moment of TV Show-ness and actually interesting old car stuff.

Mustie1: https://www.youtube.com/c/mustie1/videos
A guy in the US who find old things and fixes them up or strips them down to see why they broke. Often VW based things. He knows his stuff and is very entertaining to watch as he doesn't use manuals and prefers just to dig in and rely on his own knowledge to figure things out.

Fitzees fabrications: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6JPmJ_...Jnw/videos
Another one in Canada I believe. He has some really good metalworking/panel beating tips.

Vice Grip Garage: https://www.youtube.com/c/ViceGripGarage/videos
A US based chap and his car projects. I really like this one since Derek is down to earth and knows his stuff and just seems like a genuinely nice chap. All US based car stuff (with some snowmobiles thrown in) but all done by himself on the cheap. Lots of stick in your head catchphrases. You will find yourself saying them if you watch him enough. Well, I'll be dipped...

Junkyard digs: https://www.youtube.com/c/JunkyardDigs/videos
Similar to Vice Grip garage but mainly focused on getting old US stuff that's been sitting for years running again.

Macro Machines: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPkfggf...k8TDa_9m8A
A young guy in the US somewhere building a custom aluminium bodied speedster from scratch. He does lots of other hands on things too and definitely has lots of skills. It always amazes me though what they can get away with when building cars in the US. Weld together whatever you like and slap a 500+ HP V8 in it for cheap, yeah sure, go ahead!

Donut Media: https://www.youtube.com/c/DonutMediaTV/videos
Another US based 'show' and this is generally modern stuff but it is presented really well, they do a ton of content and the presenters are all just so damn likeable.

Hoovies Garage: https://www.youtube.com/c/HooviesGarage/videos
Another US based one. This one I don't like as much as I used to as it is getting more about the YouTube channel than the cars and the cars are just getting more and more expensive and rare which removes a lot of the interest for me personally. But entertaining enough.

Car Wizard: https://www.youtube.com/user/OmegaAutoService
A spin off from Hoovies Garage above really. The Car Wizard services most (no BMWs!) of Hoovies cars. The Wizard knows his stuff and is likeable but I find the channel is trying a bit too hard and can be a bit cringey.

Tavarish: https://www.youtube.com/c/tavarish/videos
This one is a bit variable I find. Again US based. Often around supercars but he does some interesting stuff and is a likeable guy.

Wrench Every Day: https://www.youtube.com/c/WrenchEveryDay/videos
A sister channel to Tavarish so there is some overlap. Jared is a real mechanic and knows his stuff and seems like a really decent chap too. But with most of these US channels the focus seems to be more on building a channel so eventually they lose what it is that makes them fun to start with.

Tavarish, Hoovie and Ed Bolian have done a series (a couple now) called Car Trek which is a shameless Top Gear 'buy three cheap supercars challenge' rip off but entertaining enough (and just like Top Gear hugely scripted in parts).

I am sure I have others I have forgotten but now I have to go move house so I will add them later. Feel free to add more here.

Well I cannot resist but refer the reader to a fascinating channel I find excellent viewing
Bloke in his garage turns out lovely work, never afraid to learn a new skill or puzzle something through. Asks for advice when stumped

Ivan's Shed is brilliant.
Really well filmed and it makes the most of Ivan's experience and judgement.

This is my favourite

What it must be like restoring something if you have OCD.

That said I had the Sparkilators out and cleaned the Lightning Whirler on the Box today.

Bloody thing missed a few beats on the way to work.

This is my favourite car-based channel:

https://www.youtube.com/user/mightycarmods

Again, more modern stuff but I've found some of their bits very helpful and their trips to Japan are a good watch.

Well, survived the house move and the Internet works apparently. Will check out the other links.

Mighty car mods is one I used to watch then went off since they got 'too big'. Their stuff is great though and the increase in production values and so on was amazing but the projects stopped being 2 guys in a shed and more about here is some thing we could never do without sponsorship and with free support of our expert friends. I will give them another go though, they seems very nice chaps to be honest although not a big fan of Moog's style of music.

Cleetus McFarland channel is pretty good because they used their YouTube fandom to do something really big and bought a racetrack. Then they give that back to the You Tube people: https://www.youtube.com/c/SPOCARVideos/featured

Another one I liked but have gone off as it got more sponsored is Finnegan's Garage (from Roadkill): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1IdPyl...HFLJqHbG_g

Still good stuff but once it gets to the point where they are doing things 'normal' people can't do I think I lose interest. And US cars seems kind of easy to me. You can buy anything you want, shipped overnight, and reasonably priced.

I used to like Roadkill (and Roadkill garage and Engine Masters) but it all went paid TV. I couldn't even get it if I wanted to pay from NZ apparently.

I'll check out the other links thanks!
