Searching for a head gasket
#1
Music
Greetings all,

I am looking for a head gasket for my 1938 Big Seven.  This is an Australian car (Ute or utility) and the old gasket is stamped what looks like "AUS 2A".

I have searched the various spares sites and have only been able to find this one that is similar but doesn't seem to be exact.  My block appears to have a smaller radius on the "top" corners just judging by the photos.  In addition some of the bolt holes appear to be in the wrong place.  My block has 15 studs and the replacements I can find all appear to have 14.

Do these two photos below look familiar to anyone out there?  Any guesses where I might find a replacement?

Many thanks in advance.

Unfortunately your two photos aren't visible on my Apple Mac Computer, not sure if anyone else on the Forum can see them ?
As your car is a Big Seven, the engine is totally different to the 'earlier' Sevens which confusingly continued in production until 1939 after the introduction of the Big Seven in 1938 - hence the gasket you found on The Seven Workshop site is for the 'earlier' Austin Seven and not the Big Seven. The 'earlier' Seven engine was 747cc whereas your Big Seven has a 900cc engine.

Suggest you contact the Big Seven Register who also supply parts specifically for Big 7's - the contact details are below:

Robin Taylor of the 'Austin Big 7 Register' and 'Big 7 Spares' :-

If the Big Seven Register haven't any head gaskets and you find yourself having to contact other UK based vintage gasket specialists, the PAYEN reference number for the Head Gasket which incidentally also fits the 1939 to 1948 Austin Eight is PAYEN 100A. Given that the head gasket is the same, the Austin Eight Register may also be able to help - link below:
