HC Head - is it worth the bother?
#11
This raises again the question of torque, covered extensively on the old site. There is a big difference between dry and oily but it is difficult to get really dry. To the keen tinkerer a broken stud is an interesting challenge but for many it is a dispiriting set back. Recent aftermarket studs may be of exotic stuff and perhaps the originals were too, but the commonly suggested torque for HT 45 tsi hardware bolts oiled is only 15 lb ft. For b.e bolts of superior stuff older cars typically recommended 16-20 lbs ft.
