While checking out some door handle details on Ruairidh’s excellent
GE Register (
LINK) I came across a pile of interesting NZ Cups
Plus an unusual photo supplied by Geoffrey
of a Cup with a puncture parked on the pavement at Buck House.
No guardsmen in sight but a few Bobbies as the driver
In the pouring rain uses a screw jack to change a rear wheel.
The car is slightly modified in that the headlamps appear
To be bolted to the wings, rather than the radiator cowl.
Not seen that before? No sidelights either? Last few made?
Great photo though, Thanks Geoff.

Ps I wonder if they would let me recreate the scene? -

What a tremendous photo, Bill. Imagine if you could reproduce that situation now. It would be news worldwide!

Hi folks
I’d hadn’t realised the photo posting was so recent.
Thanks to Timothy and Ruairidh for adding the professional looking
links. I suppose a puncture can happen anywhere?
They wouldn’t shoot now would they?
I also have a period photo of a Monte. Carlo rally TR3A parked at the gates of
the Palace at Monaco , strangely I once knew the Consul for Monaco
in Edinburgh, plus the woman( lady!) who worked at the desk next to me
in my last job , was related to that Royal Family and they had holidays at her home in Arran
She thought she could have fixed that recreation but getting my TR to Monaco
would have bust my Austin 7 budget!
I’m always amazed at the number and far flung locations
that GE Cups got to !
