Apropos insect strikes...

I remember driving one morning with Kenny Everett on the radio:

'When it hits the windscreen, what's the last thing that goes through a fly's mind?..........................It's bum!'

And of course he emphasised the final word - which was a tad risque for the Beeb at the time - with his typical naughty-schoolboy relish. Had to stop the car to wipe the tears of laughter from my eyes.

Ah, Kenny, the highlight of the radio week in my teenage years, I regularly spat out my rice crispies of a Saturday morning...

I've had stones too close for comfort so never without goggles, even behind aero-screens. Aside from the danger to eyesight I'd be really peed off if my damned expensive varifocals got damaged!

As an aside, I can recommend "Birdz" goggles to go over spectacles, comfortable, don't steam up and come with clear, dark and yellow interchangeable lenses. No connection with the company other than as a satisfied customer.
