Headlight Wiring - iandecjak - 20-04-2025 Am installing headlights into Ruby Mk2 and am confused as to the wiring terminal connections. Each headlight has a pos, neg and earth leads at bulb end with spade end connectors which appear to all fit onto dip switch in the engine bay. Looking at the wiring diagram I cannot work out what goes where. Not sure which dip switch terminal does what at the 3,6 and 9 oclock positions (viewed from engine bay); would really appreciate some guidance on how to wire it all up? RE: Headlight Wiring - Tony Griffiths - 20-04-2025 Does this help - from a previous post: https://www.austinsevenfriends.co.uk/forum/printthread.php?tid=9101 RE: Headlight Wiring - iandecjak - 20-04-2025 Thanks for the link.......had a quick look but not a great help. The wiring diagram I have doesnt show a common wire coming in just the earth and red/black wire going from dipswitch to one headlamp. I will look and see if there is a wire coming from dash to the dipswitch, if this is common then I can connect both headlight blues to one terminal and then both headlight reds to one terminal and all earths to body point? I couldl reach out to TIMBO and see what the outcome was.... RE: Headlight Wiring - John Cornforth - 20-04-2025 Hi Rubies originally had a weird (to modern eyes) setup where one headlamp was switched off and the other was dipped by mechanically tilting the reflector by means of a solenoid. Nearly all have now been converted at some point over the years to a double dipping arrangement. A Lucas 31284 foot dip switch replaces the original low current rated one. These switches have screw terminals and were used on the Morris Minor etc and are readily available secondhand or as new reproductions. One wire (Blue) runs from the lighting (PLC) switch to the dip switch common input, which is the terminal nearest one of the two fixing screws. Both dip beams (Blue/Yellow) are wired to one of the dip switch outputs, and both main beams (Red) to the other one. It doesn't matter which way round, the switch just toggles from one to the other every time it's prodded. The earth return from each lamp may be via the body/chassis, or if you prefer via dedicated earth wires running back to reliable earth points on the body/chassis. The colours I quote might vary with the loom maker. |
