Reducing from 12 to 6V - PeterN - 27-01-2025 I've returned my Chummy to 6V from the previous owner's 12V set up. Everything is fine except for the clock which is 12V Can I safely use one the variously advertised converters available from EBay etc or are there hidden problems with doing that. To avoid constant time resetting I'd plan to power the clock from a permanent (fused) battery connection. RE: Reducing from 12 to 6V - Ruairidh Dunford - 27-01-2025 One of these should resolve the issue: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235496100091?chn=ps&_ul=GB&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1mhzdpYT2SVOViA1NlfYTIg39&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=235496100091&targetid=2425733423477&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9191982&poi=&campaignid=21697391927&mkgroupid=162558106770&rlsatarget=aud-1641271186540:pla-2425733423477&abcId=10027104&merchantid=566621259&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA-ty8BhA_EiwAkyoa3yxG1F9T0gHtgGQPg0bLfxNYtJ0ufrfR_oJ-r3q1yV4wsGBW2a8CnxoCntMQAvD_BwE RE: Reducing from 12 to 6V - andrew34ruby - 27-01-2025 It might flatten the battery after a few days, or weeks. RE: Reducing from 12 to 6V - John Cornforth - 27-01-2025 Hi The snag with DC to DC converters is that they draw a certain amount of input current even with a very light load (or in the case of a clock, extremely light load). This will of course eventually drain the battery if the car isn't regularly used or you don't use a top-up charger. The best that one can do is choose a "mini" DC-DC converter model i.e. one having a low maximum power rating, to minimise the current drain. The one linked below might suit, though you would of course have to house it in something. The output voltage setting is by means of two little link pads on the PCB. I successfully used one for a friend to drive a 12 volt petrol gauge on a 6 volt Seven, though admittedly it was ignition switched. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175905780884?_skw=6v+12v+step+up+converter+mini+boost&itmmeta=01JJMJD77W5PH4HJ0PDD9DY8T7&hash=item28f4cd3494:g:evsAAOSwMIllBtWV&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4HoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKlTf4b1HMJGIn5oVMkkBXMahAF%2FItyRA73XaxZXm1NeRqUuN0W24QEe4cpFWVlBDe66EnmfsUkZfMu%2BXiVG0lsqQnVnSCFcQ4MZ8SEYwHpR9DAtoJVMW%2Fgp8vHg4ABZRo4aGcgkq9wcJYKtZ6fQg0Jw4%2FguRcMh0eTjkAFEzyBWSeh1ekIoDMgPdnRPRWyzHf2eez09sVO0s9hPzGFTonCLIpgNvpE8gL28TG8whybgR7qVvHSzEjeKmYf5DDGbG6CHogXzsSW%2FL0YxDeu2VhOS%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR570tJKVZQ RE: Reducing from 12 to 6V - Chris KC - 27-01-2025 I'm sure you've thought of it, but unless you're particularly attached to that specific clock, would it not be less hassle just to look out for a 6V one (or even a wind-up)? RE: Reducing from 12 to 6V - PeterN - 27-01-2025 Many thanks for the replies and recommendations RE: Reducing from 12 to 6V - Duncan Grimmond - 28-01-2025 I thought that the basic premise behind A7 ownership was to enjoy oneself while trying to make time stand still....
