EA Sports(Ulster) door cards - Erich - 20-12-2024

Hi All,

I know, I know, I'm a bit of rivet counter and this is for a Rep. Perhaps I've asked this before, so apologies for that. On the EA Sports, how were the door cards attached? They are, because of the body shape, curved. The upper part of the door card, as originally fitted, would have been held in place by the rubber hoses. But the bottom would need something as well. As the door cards were meant to siffien the body, I'm guessing that they were glued in once the vinyl covering was fitted. Is there any evidence of this? Another fixing, such as at the bottom, would have required some sort of fitting. But on my original car, No. 125, there is no evidence of this. So what is the consensus. Were the door cards glued in or....?

I'm certainly no expert but I'd be very surprised if door cards were ever glued into place. It's a permanent fix that would not allow for any service or adjustment without damage or re-attachment problems, pretty much the antithesis of a "people's car".
On a modern though, I'd almost expect it...

If the door cards are made out of flexible birch ply they will be curved to the body side when in situ.  If the curved top edge is fixed by the rubber hose edging, the bottom edge will go nowhere and retain its curve.  No fixing is needed.

Hello Erich,
as Malcolm says use birch ply, no fixings apart from the three cockpit clips which in my case I've never got round to fitting. Sandwiched behind the dashboard/windscreen stiffeners and trapped by the seat cushions. See photos.
