Bumpers - Archivist - 19-11-2024

Just for Howard...

This is a recurring style of bumpers that appears in the photos I am currently working on...

Chrome Rad. Austin 10s have bumpers just like that.

RE: Bumpers - Howard Wright - 19-11-2024

Thanks Hugh

I assume these are Austin originals?

Cheers

Howard

I think that is a fair assumption. Howard, As Ruairidh says, they are fitted to Austin 10s and I have other photos in the collection (of 7s) I am dealing with that are identical. The evidence is perhaps just a little too strong..

RE: Bumpers - Mike Costigan - 20-11-2024

We have discussed bumpers before https://www.austinsevenfriends.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=1689&highlight=argentina

I believe the build record for the Argentina car survives, quoting bumpers fitted, in which case the factory ones were a single fluted blade, not the double one seen in this photo; these are probably the Wilmot Breedon accessory, although the distinctive WB logo in the centre is not visible, so maybe another supplier?

RE: Bumpers - Archivist - 20-11-2024

Another image from the collection I am currently working on showing similar, if not the same, bumper style..

RE: Bumpers - AustinWood - 20-11-2024

Wilmot Breedon made accesory bumpers for Austins.

Hi Mike

I’d completely forgotten this thread.  I would agree that single leaf bumpers are most likely to be Austin fittings.

Cheers

Howard

RE: Bumpers - squeak - 20-11-2024

Hugh the bumper on CG4393 is certain to be made by Elephant Motors, it has the rectangular brass badge with elephants head motif.
The picture of JD4256 shows a taller bumper badge with tapered ends, possibly Wilmot Breeden.
