New chummy fuel tank - Dave Wortley - 05-08-2024 Good afternoon everyone. I have a friend who would like to replace his chummy type petrol tank with a brand new one. His present tank is forever causing him grief with his car stopping at the most dangerous places (on the A57 at the bends near Ladybower reservoir as one example.) So much so that he is reluctant to use the car. Would anyone have experience of a good supplier please? RE: New chummy fuel tank - Tony Griffiths - 05-08-2024 Well, David, as somebody looking at the Ulster you built point-blank refused to believe that the fuel tank was not original - you are the man for the job! Besides that, how about Goodfellows metalwork@ossian4.co.uk ? Tinning the inside is, I believe, a problem and Rory has in the past recommended Dave Campbell at Lincolnshire Radiators for such work. He writes: "Along with the supply of new, re-cored or repaired radiators we also offer a fuel tank repair service for any Steel or Aluminium tanks, with this ability we are also able to fabricate water/fuel/oil tanks to your specification. Our dedicated & knowledgeable staff can offer advice on all of our products & our workshop is willing to undertake a variety of jobs. We have completed work from 1920’s vintage one of a kind vehicles all the way through to large generator radiators standing 9ft tall. Whether it’s a new unit being sourced, queries about repair work or steel/aluminium fabrication you require, don’t hesitate to give us a call. You'd be surprised at what we can do for you..." RE: New chummy fuel tank - Mike Costigan - 05-08-2024 I think most radiator specialists will be able to do a good job; I had a new tank for the Saxon made up by Mansfield Radiators using the original fittings - presumably there will be a specialist in the Sheffield area that can help. http://www.mansfieldradiators.com/ RE: New chummy fuel tank - Duncan Grimmond - 05-08-2024 If you can't find someone locally I'm not too far away... RE: New chummy fuel tank - Chris KC - 05-08-2024 I don't doubt there are many people who could do the job, but speaking from personal experience Dave at Lincolnshire Rads will bend over backwards to supply what you want. RE: New chummy fuel tank - Ruairidh Dunford - 05-08-2024 I do agree, Chris. He’s my go to man for, almost all, fuel tank work. RE: New chummy fuel tank - Steve kay - 05-08-2024 One question might be why your friend is having problems with the existing tank? If suffering on tight corners or steep hills, is he not keeping sufficient fuel level? Minor seepage needs to be dealt with of course, but should not bring the machine to a halt. Perhaps taking the scuttle tank off and cleaning it out might be a good first step. And gently pointing out the position of the fuel tap on the front face of the tank and the need to keep ample fuel in the tank at all times. RE: New chummy fuel tank - Jamie - 06-08-2024 Oxfordshire Sevens manufacture new bulkhead mounted fuel tanks. Jamie. RE: New chummy fuel tank - Dave Mann - 06-08-2024 Maybe a good clean out with Deox C as I did with a friends RP tank RE: New chummy fuel tank - goodwoodweirdo - 06-08-2024 Stuart Roach would be able to help, he's on the south coast .. |
