How can I fix the control lever bracket? - Hurvinek - 20-07-2024

Hi folks

I need your help again.

As I understand, the control lever bracket should not move whilst driving. On my RF the bracket uses to turn together with the steering wheel, what is very annoying because everytime it does so the gas and ignition settings do change as well. That can't be correct. What do I have to do to in this case? I don't know where I need to attach the bracket.

Thank you very much in advance for your contribution.

Best,
Oliver

Hi Hirvenek

It could be very simple or a real pain.

If the control bracket (the plate with ignition and gas inscribed) is simply loose on the stator tube it can be tightened by the 1/4 BSF bolt and nut on its clamp.

If it’s the stator tube itself that is rotating then you will most likely have to take the steering box out.  The stator tube is soldered onto a brass socket needing at least the base of the steering box to be dismantled.

Cheers

Howard

One final possibility is the nut on the end of the stator tube bush has come loose. An easy fix.

Hi Howard

Thank you very much. I have already passed the easy solutions, but without satisfying results, so now it looks like I need to dismantle the steering box. There is something wrong with it anyway, because my car is not willing to roll straight forward. I know, all Sevens use to show such a behavior, but this is beyond limits. My other cars are much better in this case.

I will go on with that on Monday. Thanks again, Howard.

Cheers,
Oliver

Have you also checked that the ratchet mechanism is actually holding the levers in place? If the spring-loaded plungers to the thumb-turn levers are not there then there is nothing to hold them stationary.
