Ruby steering boxes. - JaneAustin - 10-06-2024

Does anyone know whether Ruby mk1 and mk2 steering boxes are interchangeable?

I think the later boxes had a different mounting arrangement - doubtless can be fitted but might need to drill some holes.

I believe that I have one of each for my special, the earlier one is top mounted with the Brake pedal bolt going through the side of the chassis whilst the later one is entirely side mounted with only two bolts, one being for the brake pedal and the other supplementary.

Hi

It depends on the age of Ruby. The new steering box, known as the hourglass type was fitted to all cars around October / November 1936. My first Special was based on a Mk 2 Ruby but had the old steering box attached to the top of the chassis with the brake pin through the side. From memory I think the chassis was August 1936?

Cheers

Howard
