Differential lip seal - phillips - 29-04-2024

Hi all, can someone more enlightened than myself help me out. I have unfortunately had too strip down the rear axle on our MK2 Ruby, and having gone this far, I was wondering what is the benefit of fitting the new style of differential lip seal? and what is entailed in doing so. IE what do I leave out? Or put back in, like the seal housing, washer, spring ring? And which way around does the new lip seal go.
Many thanks in anticipation. S&P

There was a lot of swearing when I first tried to fit these. Think it was the ones slightly oversize.

If you are fitting diff seals it is worth fitting a torque tube seal especially if you have a horizontal tube (Ulster or special) as when reversing up a slope the scroll seal will leak oil. Terry.
