Rist Horns - Graham Barker - 12-02-2024

Would someone please advise whether a Rist horn was a standard fitment for a 1937 Ruby?  If not, what would have been the standard horn?
Advice appreciated or leads to a suitable source document.
Thanks
Graham Barker.

The Archive holds, and has published, Parts lists from many years which show the horn fitted. Even in 1938, it still shows a Rist Horn fitted

Thanks Archivist for searching out that parts list showing the Rist Horn. I can see from the radiator and the 3 bearing crankshaft that it relates to my Ruby model.
I have used the archived parts list a few times to resolve queries, but overlooked it this time.
Regards
Graham.

Didn't MkII Rubies get the Altette?

Unfortunately whilst Austin's drawing office updated the part numbers in in the spares lists they didn't always update the pictures. The RN saloon parts list 888 gives the horn part number as BG 83 whilst one of the Ruby parts lists gives the horn number as BG 256 but they both have the same picture. Other errors are the 4 speed engine having a picture of a 3 speed engine oil filler tube and the RN saloon with a picture of a 22FZ carburetor. For all things electrical ask Stuart Joseph.

Hi Graham

Rinsey Mills shows an Altette horn in the engine bay of a 37 Ruby on page 69.

Cheers

Howard

I didn't comment earlier as I was certain when the change happened. I was hoping it would spark a discussion by those with more knowledge. Dave Mann's comment being particularly pertinent. Had it all remained quiet I would have asked the question about the Altette...

RE: Rist Horns - Stuart Joseph - 13-02-2024

In 1970 whilst a student in Leeds I visited Kirby Wiske to buy a horn for my 1937 Super Accessories special.
I was expecting a Rists horn but Mr Jack Dalby offered me a Altette. I queried this but he assured me that was the correct horn for a MKII (AAR) Ruby.

An interesting article on horns fitted to the Type 65 and Nippy: https://aus7in.wordpress.com/2020/05/04/austin-seven-65-nippy-horns/

RE: Rist Horns - Robert Leigh - 13-02-2024

I have owned 4 MkII Rubies, all fitted with the Altette. The first of my Rubies still had the original paint and was 24 yeras old at the time.
