Not for every workshop, but a very handy machine - a simple, manually-operated Capco surface grinder (with a new, to-be-fitted single-phase motor) has just been listed here for £350: https://store.lathes.co.uk/adverts/for-sale/capco-manual-surface-grinder
Even in scruffy condition these usually go for between £650 and £950 - so if you've ever considered one, now's the chance.

Lovely little machine, I skimmed my first Austin cylinder head on one of those back in 1968…shame I don’t have my big workshop anymore, I only have room for my lathe and a pillar drill these days.
