D2 SU carb - falcott - 30-12-2023 Hi all, I'm looking for a downdraft 1.125 inch D2 SU carb for my Special. I'm wondering if anyone has one to spare. Many thanks. RE: D2 SU carb - Jeff Taylor - 30-12-2023 Hi Geoffrey, The SU D2 1.125" downdraft carb was primarily though not exclusively fitted to the 1946 to 1948 Wolseley 8 OHV engine - just over 5300 cars were made during that time. The D2's occasionally appear on UK ebay but not very often. Only a relatively small number of Wolseley 8 cars remain worldwide - there's possibly one or two in Australia, not sure about New Zealand though. Jeff. You may have seen this already - there's a triple set on ebay at the moment located in Gloucester, UK at £420 or best offer. It's well worth contacting Andy Shepherd (his details are on this website page if you scroll down)... when i was looking for a sidedraught one he had several downdraft SUs suitable for an Austin 7. He tends to have a lot of special parts. https://oldcarservices.co.uk/austin-seven-specialists/ RE: D2 SU carb - falcott - 30-12-2023 Thanks for the leads. I watch ebay listings for SU carbs, but haven't seen those. They seem to have disappeared into the background. Not that I want 3 carbs anyway! I'm checking with the Wolseley club in NZ at the moment. I checked with austin7ulster and they said that they don't have any. RE: D2 SU carb - dickie65 - 30-12-2023 Hi I have got three of them. One is a bit worn the other two came as a pair on a manifold I used one of them on my EB65 for a few years. I have finally got a Zenith 30VE1 which is the correct carb for my car so they are surplus to my needs. I suspect that it will cost a lot to ship from the Uk to you. RE: D2 SU carb - falcott - 30-12-2023 Dickie, I've sent a PM, thanks. RE: D2 SU carb - David.H - 03-01-2024 Rover used DD SU D3 pre war on 10-20 hp cars. They went to Solex for a short while as SU weren't able to supply from about 1945-47 (all being used by Nuffield I expect). I have a 1947 12hp tourer with a Solex and a new SU D3 from a post-war Wolseley 14 to fit when the mood takes me...it will need rejetting and an adaptor plate making up, but the linkages are the same as the for the Solex (allegedly!) I think it may be a bigger diameter... RE: D2 SU carb - falcott - 03-01-2024 If D2 was 1.125", then D3 must be 1.25", is my guess. Interesting. RE: D2 SU carb - Ken Morton - 03-01-2024 I have a D2 SU set up for Austin Seven with 62 needle, yellow spring and 90 jet. It is attached to an upright inlet manifold and a A R exhaust manifold for Ulster replica. e mail me at kenmorton@telus.net RE: D2 SU carb - John Cornforth - 03-01-2024 Hi I found online a useful 2017 reprint by the Riley Car Club of New Zealand of the SU Workshop Manual AUC9609A, Issue 2 1958. A page from this is shown below, with data for early SU carburettor types: |
