Camshaft removal - John Cornforth - 26-12-2023 Morning all I'm doing an unhurried partial engine overhaul at the moment. At some stage I want to take the camshaft out. Assuming the block and tappets are out of the way, can I just unscrew the square headed camshaft bush locator and slide the camshaft out forwards without disturbing the oil pump ? The round disc above its gear is nicely sealed at the moment and I'd prefer to leave it be. Having got the camshaft out and on the bench, what's the best way of getting the pinion off the end ? RE: Camshaft removal - Tiger - 26-12-2023 Mine came off easily Lightly clamped in copper covered vice jaws just behind the gear wheel. Then hit the shaft with mallet ( nut released a few threads) I did apply some heat via electric heat gun. Hope this helps Hope you are enjoying Christmas Regards Tim RE: Camshaft removal - Ruairidh Dunford - 26-12-2023 All, as above, but using a tight puller, like the one below. One sharp tap is normally all that is required: Screenshot 2023-12-26 at 13.02.04.png (Size: 144.67 KB / Downloads: 139) |
