Please Miss. Why have so many contributors lost all their gold stars?
(Not that I am particularly exercised by the loss...)

Actually, you just provided the clue. The rating stars appear next to the individual contributor's name in the comments section but for only a few people in the threads listing.

Gosh I appear to have four Gold Stars.
I never acheived any Gold Stars at Junior School.
I did get awarded with the Slipper a few Times
Also the Table Tennis Bat
And the twelve inch ruler applied on the arm in a manner that left no bruises.

I thought the stars in the threads listing were for the threads themselves. Some quite complex algorithms deciding this I’m sure.
