MORE STARTER MOTOR - Steve Clare - 27-05-2023

I've cleaned up my starter motor generally as it had oily copper gunk under the cover when I took it off. As I noted in a recent post, it fired up fine when cleaned, but I did note sparking at the brush.
Anyway, today it didn't want to work ( the battery is in good order, cable is heavy and in good order, terminals good. The contacts on the switch clean).
When I lifted the brush on the spring and let it spring back down- hey presto the motor worked. But a little while later nothing, so I thought I would flick the brush on its spring again to prompt it into life, and promptly burned my finger on the brush housing-- bloody hot!
I'm assuming this isn't right and something is shorting out perhaps?
Steve

More than likely a poor or broken connection on the motor .
I would remove and clean and fit new brushes.
Examine the bearing’s at the same time.
