That is an impressively accurate depiction of an early chummy, although one wonders why it has been given a plated radiator shell.

The Artist was one Robert Ayton - and, yes, the plated shell is a mystery. The book states, "First Published 1962" and, looking at ones for sale, only the first edition had a dust jacket. Other books by the publisher on the subject included "The Ladybird Book of Motor Cars" and "How it Works, the Motor Car".

Interesting; Robert Ayton is a new name to me, and does not appear on the Motoring Art Information website (perhaps because he is considered an illustrator rather than an artist!).
