Brass petrol tap seizeing up - Jeff Blight - 16-08-2022 Hi any one got a fix for a quite new fuel tap getting rather tight it’s the brass lever type and I’m haveing To use pliers to move it ! RE: Brass petrol tap seizeing up - Ivor Hawkins - 16-08-2022 If it is the brass taper type, I find lapping the taper with some Brasso helps, not only sealing, but aids smoother operation. RE: Brass petrol tap seizeing up - Ruairidh Dunford - 16-08-2022 Dismantle and smear taper with Gold Hermatite. RE: Brass petrol tap seizeing up - Hedd_Jones - 16-08-2022 Jeff, the one on my chummy is getting to that point. I plan doing what Ivor suggests, though I will also lubricate with graphite flake when I reassemble. Brasso is also not what it was, Autosol or Peek is now my preferred brass lapping compound. Sometimes I use 'Pink' bought from B&M it is a compound sold to housewives for cleaning around the house. Its coarser than Autosol or Peek. Do not lap with any form of carborundum, valve grinding paste etc it will embed in the brass and you will get nowhere. RE: Brass petrol tap seizeing up - Parazine - 16-08-2022 Someone recommended a small quantity of two stroke oil, added to the petrol. I never tried it but replaced the tap with a PTFE/Ball valve seated one, designed for a motor bike. ROUND LEVER TYPE FUEL PETROL TAP WITH FILTER 1/8'' x 1/4'' | eBay I had to remove the filter but you could make an adapter to house it. RE: Brass petrol tap seizeing up - Nick Turley - 16-08-2022 I agree these are the real long term solution. RE: Brass petrol tap seizeing up - Hugh Barnes - 16-08-2022 +1 for that tap. Fitted one on the Chummy and completely eliminated any leak... plus it has very smooth operation.. RE: Brass petrol tap seizeing up - frequentflyer - 18-08-2022 When they get tired and weapy just lap them in with timesaver compound. Its good on allsorts of things and unlike most lapping compounds it does not imbed into the surfaces of the metals been lapped. I have used it on plastic, brass, gunmetal and white metal with great results. RE: Brass petrol tap seizeing up - Jeff Blight - 19-08-2022 Thanks for reply’s seems golden hermitite not made anymoor so have lapped in with some t cut and now working as should will see for how long Thanks for the reply’s and advice RE: Brass petrol tap seizeing up - GK5268 - 19-08-2022 I just fitted one of these Feked fuel taps, refilled the fuel and guess what?
