Insurance for young driver with provisional licence? - Henry Harris - 13-07-2022
I have a young 17 years old son with a provisional licence who is very keen to learn to drive in an Austin 7.
Any recommendations for possible insurers. I'm not having any luck finding one willing to take on the task.

33 years ago Sid Richardson,the then go to person at RH,arranged for Ruairidh and several other young enthusiasts to be covered with certain strict provisions.
Thank goodness for Sid,and perhaps there are still s few bravehearts there now.
No harm in asking,and using previous evidence in support.

RH, Footman James and Adrian Flux are drivers over 25 years old.

I got my Grandson onto my old car insurance through Routen Chaplin with some strict conditions when he was 18. He did have a full licence by then though. His case was considered individualy by the underwriters and one condition was that he had a policy in his own name for a modern car (which he had). As he got older, the conditions attached were gradually reduced each year. It worked well but I was a long time existing customerof RC and had built up a good relationship with them.
You say you're son's keen to learn to drive in a Seven. Fine, but he won't be able to take his test driving one I'm afraid. These days, the examiner will refuse the test because of no seat belts, air bags, sat nav etc. etc. Such is progress!!

Have you tried phoning these companies? I had insurance with Footman James, Lancaster, and Adrian Flux under the age of 25 on a post war Morris Minor as an only car, even though their websites say that's not possible. This was approximately 5 years ago.

I would echo contacting Emma direct. Although you have called you will likely have met with someone in front of a screen pressing buttons in an automated system, rather than making use of Emma's experience to add some humanity and common sense to 'computer says no'.
As others have said might well make big difference if you are already with them though.
