Innovative ideas for an engine test bed… - Ruairidh Dunford - 01-07-2022

I am going to be building a new engine test bed soon and wonder what innovative ideas people might be willing to share please?

I need to be able to move it about.

I used to start engines just sitting on the floor. They move about all by themselves!!

Castors with brakes to avoid the above...

Whatever you build, just put it on four top-quality castors. One workshop I saw was so full of machinery that there was only space for the owner to stand in front of one at a time. Each machine was bolted to a heavy, fabricated trolley on castors allowing it to be manoeuvred into position as required.
I made some for my own business and have one spare 40" x 18" able to take half a ton. If you'd like it, it's free for collection.

I have the front half of a chassis if you want it to use ?

hi R,

I've been thinking the same thing, as I want to revamp the workshop over the winter.

The biggest problem I've seen most people have is actually getting a fully built engine on and off?

So perhaps a small crane (homemade) on one corner, non of us are getting younger.

Tony.

Perhaps with a small water brake dyno on the back end, to properly test the engine under load (rather than tune to the nth?)
