Door safety latch - Nick Salmon - 05-06-2022 I would like to find a pair of security latches (something similar to the below) to use in addition to the original door latches on the Chummy. Google searching has not turned up much. Does anyone know of a source of something suitable please - or have any they would like to sell on? latch.JPG (Size: 27.95 KB / Downloads: 404) RE: Door safety latch - Ruairidh Dunford - 05-06-2022 See here Nick: https://www.completeautomobilist.com/search?query=gravelly RE: Door safety latch - Duncan Grimmond - 05-06-2022 One of the things from Complete that you don't need a mortgage for! Maybe that's a bit harsh as they do have very good stock but I've just bought the £30.00 + brass adaptor for one of these babies for a customer. Glad I didn't have to buy this https://www.completeautomobilist.com/products/968b-large-lever-top-filler-cap-bonora RE: Door safety latch - Howard Wright - 05-06-2022 Hi Nick I’ve just spent ages looking for exactly the same thing! Thanks Ruairidh for the link, from which I found the proper name for them “gravelly catches” and bought a pair off eBay for £11.50. Not sure what the quality will be like. Cheers Howard RE: Door safety latch - Nick Salmon - 05-06-2022 Super. Thanks Ruairidh. Howard - well found - will you kindly report back on your purchase as I like about £12/pair rather than each... Will do Cheers Howard RE: Door safety latch - Duncan Grimmond - 05-06-2022 You may find that the difference is between chrome-plated die-cast "metal" and solid brass at that price difference? Cynic? moi?...As if! I'd whittle my own from a brass stick if I needed them but who would pay £25.00 each?(un-plated at that!) RE: Door safety latch - stuartu - 05-06-2022 I rather like the type of catch referred to as a throw over catch. Complete Automobilist do a version, at the anticipated price. They put me in mind of some sash window catches, for example eBay item number: 232287713502 Very few of these are handed but it looks as though the item I refer to might be. Just a thought. Regards, Stuart RE: Door safety latch - JonE - 06-06-2022 For the woodie I tried these but didn't use them: https://www.kennedyhardware.com/brass-window-sash-latch.html But it feels like they need a sash clamping effect otherwise there is no rigidity in the door and other structure? These sort of things would be up to the job.. and pretty reasonable. https://www.sheridanmarine.com/product/freeman-throwover-catch-stay RE: Door safety latch - Parazine - 06-06-2022 Look good Jon. I feel I could use a pair for the Top Hat. I just don't trust flimsy suicide doors..... |
