Alternate oils…… - Denis Sweeney - 21-05-2022 Question to fellow forum members living in La Belle France…….. Does anyone know if Castrol XXL 40 engine oil would be available anywhere or are there any equivalent oils that could be safely used to top up in the event that more oil is consumed than planned for during our impending trip thro Alsace and the Black Forest?? Cheers Denis S RE: Alternate oils…… - Reckless Rat - 21-05-2022 I've never used exotic oils here in France. Monogrades are available but generally from specialised suppliers and are pricey. I just use supermarket 20W50. And change it every 1000 miles. RE: Alternate oils…… - Denis Sweeney - 21-05-2022 Thanks, it’s the oil that was originally used when the engine was rebuilt and is the only oil I’ve used since, even after a number of oil changes, I have managed to reduce the many oil leaks quite substantially but not sure how affective they will be after the 5 or 600 miles down and then more….
