Piloted reamer value? - Graham Honnor - 20-04-2022

Now that I have decided to sell my special I was just going through a few spares that I have and found a king pin reamer that I bought from
my friend many years ago.
He told me it was an original factory type 1/2" piloted reamer that he'd bought to do his kingpins with and now he'd  done them he didn't need it any more.
I bought it as mine needed doing but in the end I had an Austin specialist do them for me so I never actually used it.
Would anyone be able to give me a rough idea how much it is worth please as I don't have a clue.
I still have the instructions with it but I'll never use it.
Many thanks
Graham.

If this is a genuine 3 part Austin 7 King pin reamer and you would like to sell it,I am interested in purchasing it.
I don't know what it is worth but if you suggest a price to me I will respond.

Hello Ian

It is as you say a 3 part jobby and from what I was told has only been used for the one pair of king pins.
All I remember of my conversation with my old friend was him stressing to me to only ever turn it clockwise.
As it was I never used it so that didn't come into the equation.
If you message me your address I'll send it to you to evaluate it's worth as I'm sure we'll not fall out over
the price.
I'm only glad that I know it's gone to a good home.

Many thanks

Graham.

Hi

I’d put it on eBay where it will find its own value.

Cheers

Howard

That really would be my last resort.
I'd rather it went to Ian.
Thank you anyway.
Graham.

I am familiar with adj reamers with removable pilot but not others.
Mention is made of 3 part reamer, curious about that too.

The pre Girling ideally require a pilot, a normal reamer, and a "bottoming"reamer.
A used kingpin can be made into a D bit but a liitle further easing is necessary.

The proper reamer does it all if used as its designed.
It pilot cuts / line ream's both bushes and does the bottom.
My uncle gave me the one I have got he found it when he was having a tidy up.

RE: Piloted reamer value? - Tony Griffiths - 20-04-2022

In the mid-1960s I had a London company make a batch of 20 of these and, from memory, they sold, even then, for about £10 each. The last set was made a few years ago by a local VSCC member who passed the whole batch to a cherished supplier for, I think, around £90 each? I don't know what the retail price was. It might be time to commission another set?

RE: Piloted reamer value? - Tony Press - 20-04-2022

Some years back Tony had a set of king pin reamers made- I seem to remember my reamer cost A$180 landed in Australia .

The use was described in a A7CA magazine - I have a copy of the page stored with my (as yet unused) reamer.

RE: Piloted reamer value? - Ian Dunford - 21-04-2022

There is a drawing in one of the very earlyA7CA magazines of just such a reamer.
I have a vague recollection that Tony Griffiths was involved in it,and the production that followed
I would think that there is now enough interest again after the 52 year delay, for some entrepreneurs to consider another run.
