Rist Horn on 12 Volts - Nick Mayne - 14-01-2022

Do I need a resistor in series to run a 6V Rist horn on 12 Volts? If so can anyone recommend an Ohm value and even a specific item?

I run my six volt klaxon on twelve volts. works well and scares the bejesus out of those who offend me.

My 6v Rist horn has been on 12v for the last 18 years.

Thank you both that is re-assuring so I need to do nothing and that is a change!

Can I ask a question just out of curiosity. Does running a 6 volt horn on 12 volts change the tone or its volume.

John Mason.

Will raiseĀ  tone/pitch and volume. Possibly eyebrows as well.

Whilst the Benjamin horn sounds OK on 12 volts the Rist horn was a bit too shrill for a Seven so I used a spare dynamo field resistor to drop the voltage to give a more acceptable tone.
