SU carburettor - David.H - 26-08-2021 I have just acquired a new factory rebuilt old stock downdraft SU. Probably been on the shelf for 40 years! Any advice on recommissioning it? Obviously clean the dust out & oil it & check the needle number, but anything else? RE: SU carburettor - Ian McGowan - 26-08-2021 check that the piston falls freely within the dashpot and that the butterfly opens and closed fully. RE: SU carburettor - Terrytuned - 26-08-2021 David the piston spring in a D type SU carb is stronger it should be a yellow spring AUC 1167 they often have the wrong spring fitted. Terry. RE: SU carburettor - dickie65 - 26-08-2021 I took my D2 off as I had a missfire on hard cornering ( usually half way round a roundaboat ) cured with a semi downdraft SU. This was a fully reconditioned one with the float chamber to the front of the car. I agree the spring needs to be changed for an Austin 7. |
