Mystery Car - Hugh Barnes - 04-07-2021 This photo appeared on a Facebook group I follow. I think it looks like a Box Saloon and is right hand drive, but can anyone suggest in which country it has been registered? mystery box.jpg (Size: 13.58 KB / Downloads: 537) RE: Mystery Car - Mike Costigan - 04-07-2021 Looks like the registration number is Austrian (A = Vienna). These were originally black lettering on a white background, changed to white on black as here in May 1930. The left-hand front wing would suggest an RL or early RM saloon, supported by the colour scheme. https://fahrtraum.at/en/the-first-motor-vehicle-registration-plates-a-history-of-austrian-licence-plates/ RE: Mystery Car - Martin Prior - 05-07-2021 I'd wondered about Raj-era India - letters smaller than numbers seem to have been a feature of Indian registrations until relatively recently. RE: Mystery Car - Chris KC - 06-07-2021 Not sure how bad the accident was but it looks to be RHD? RE: Mystery Car - Mike Costigan - 07-07-2021 Has anyone seen a left-hand drive RM? Many European countries including Italy and the countries of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire drove on the left until the late 1930s (Lancia, for example, didn't build any left-hand drive cars until 1953). |
