SU Carburettor Needle Size - Paul Lawrence - 21-05-2021

I am asking this question about SU carburettor needles on behalf of someone who doesn't have access to the internet.

They have a Speedex which has twin 1 1/8 carburettors with no springs, larger inlet valves and a Fast Road High Lift Camshaft.

Is anyone running a similar set up and if so what carburettor needle have you found works best for you?

Thanks,

Paul

The engine we ran with a similar spec a few yrs ago used MOW needles.

I used BD needles in a similar engine but 1" carbs.

Perhaps an ideal opportunity to remind people again of the wonderful resource that is MintyLamb where one can compare different needles 'graphically' when looking for different dimensions in needles to give variation of performance...

When using needle charts remember small carbs only usean inch or so of needle in normal running. The early 1 and 1 1/8 carbs seem to have the same lift range.
