Soho 1948 - Tony Griffiths - 10-05-2021 From a Facebook post. Frith Street, Soho, 1948 Click the image for a sharper version. In addition to the model of 7, there are other five cars to identify.... RE: Soho 1948 - Bob Culver - 10-05-2021 The Austin is only20 years old, possibly saw little use through war years, but looks distinctly used. Many cars are now hounded off the road for pedantic reasons, but it is not common to see even 25 year old cars that look very run down. Even I can rember the 1960s when could often park almost anywhere anytime except downtwn in large cities during work days. What is car behind shoulder? Too early for Sunbeam 10? RE: Soho 1948 - Mike Costigan - 10-05-2021 I think it's a rather larger car than a Sunbeam Ten, Bob; maybe a TA14 Alvis or a Mk IV Jaguar? RE: Soho 1948 - Nick Lettington - 10-05-2021 There's a Morris parked by the lamp post... RE: Soho 1948 - Duncan Grimmond - 10-05-2021 That's a "Hartingdon King" bristle brush, I'll swear... RE: Soho 1948 - John Cornforth - 10-05-2021 Hi Tony Maybe a Talbot 3 Litre ? This may be of interest, it's all about a barn find example: https://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=21877&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 The street sweeper seems to be doing a pretty good job ! RE: Soho 1948 - Chris Garner - 10-05-2021 The atmosphere depicted is very redolent of post war Britain but some features in the photograph can still be seen today. eg: the Palladium columns half way down the street. The Istanbul Cafe was very popular, apparently during the war years, and images of it can be found on the web. RE: Soho 1948 - Biddlecombe - 10-05-2021 I thought down the street facing it looked like my old Morris 8 series E. RE: Soho 1948 - Robert Leigh - 10-05-2021 Having owned one I would say pre-war SS Jaguar. |
