Mystery cylinder head - Henry Harris - 24-03-2021

I've had these un-machined cylinder head castings for more than 20 years and can't remember where they came from.

The possible suppliers were Barrie Argent, Alan Raeburn, Paul Bonewell or ????

I dont know what they looked like but Lester Reader, long time owner of the Rubber Duck car in NZ, made a batch of two piece heads probably late 1950s. One of his special builder mates was a pattern maker. All had a workshop a few doors from me when i was running my RP as a teengaer early 1960s. They had outgrown Seven specials by then. Lester died about 10 years ago.
(I presume his exploits found their way into the UK magazine)

The only question I have is where do the spark plugs go without intruding into the water jacket?

RE: Mystery cylinder head - Stuart Giles - 24-03-2021

Umpteen years ago Alec King, longtime 750 member and trials exponent showed me a casting pattern and coreboxes he had made that would have resulted in that style of head. I remember being particularly impressed with the "loose piece" which allowed the plug recesses to be cast in to a shape which otherwise wouldn't have drawn from the mould.

RE: Mystery cylinder head - flywheel1935 - 24-03-2021

looking at the inside of the casting webs my £5 is plugs in the side at about 45 degrees ???
seen something similar a few years ago, but now days I guess a CNC billet would look good too. (or 3D printing)

I think Tony Betts sold a two piece head similar to this a little while ago
