1936 Nippy: Where is reverse? - Spencer - 10-02-2021

Greetings from the newbie on the block.

My late father’s most treasured possession was his 1936 Nippy. Rather than sell it I have decided to take it over. The car is in South Africa but I shall ship it to Australia.

I have managed to start it and go for a drive, but I cannot find reverse! All positions on the H are forward gears. Can anyone tell me where reverse is?

Also, what petrol should I use? Is unleaded a problem?

Thanks in advance.

Spencer.

Unleaded is fine, it's what they were originally designed to run on. For reverse, you need to lift the stick (pull up) and then it's right and down.

Nice to see another 7 come to Australia.

have you come across the https://aus7in.wordpress.com Nippy archive, Spencer? It would be good to know if your car is 'known' about, especially if its particularly original.

Unleaded 98 is the only fuel to use here in Oz the rest is rubbish. In which state will the Nippy reside? A warm welcome to Australia.

Thank you! Easy when you know how. My partner doesn't have to push me backwards, and is grateful!

@JonE. Thanks for the link. I shall certainly look to see our car has any known history. I know my Dad had her for about 18 years but do not know who he bought it from, and so have no 'inherited' knowledge.

@Peter Arnold. Thanks for the welcome. I still have to get the Nippy there. Have been living abroad, but will return to Bargara/Bundy eventually. I see you are in Qld. Whereabouts?

@Greig Smith: I am just down the road in Plett. Thank you for the offer. I will PM you if I need help.

@wild_willy: Thanks for the welcome. The Nippy will languish in sunny Qld for the time being.
