choke cable - phillips - 21-01-2021

Hi, doing some lock down work on our Ruby and the choke cable has broken just where it goes into the brass shaft, how can I replace the choke wire? it looks like the cable is soldered into the brass shaft, is this right? one more question what gauge is the wire/cable. Thanks. S&P.

I'm sure that when I replaced mine many, many moons ago I used a cycle brake cable. If yours is soldered in place some heat should help to remove it. Size and gauge of cable isn't critical as it doesn't take much tension to close the choke.

There should be a slot in the brass rod with a nipple soldered onto the end of the cable.
Have a closer look and give it a good clean before you do anything.

I did mine also with a cycle brake cable. To make things easier use emery cloth on the new cable which will make it easier to tin with solder prior to soldering to the choke cable knob. Also soldier the other end prior to cutting which will help it from fraying.
