Trials at Butts Quarry - Mike Costigan - 30-12-2020

Many on this forum have either competed or spectated at Butts Quarry near Ashover.

The facility has been served a Noise Abatement Notice which, if enforced, will almost certainly result in the closure of the site. Was it deliberately served two days before Christmas to ensure that any response would be thwarted? Who knows, but there is an on-line petition asking for your vote:

Other motorsport venues have managed to continue under similar threats. Noise testing by motorsport UK scrutineers, limiting number of events, documented uninterrupted years of use all help maintain the facility. Plus submitting problem to Motorsports UK who will assist in objection process.
Noise testing is the more important way forward. Watching U tube videos of trial at Butts and elsewhere proove that amongst the pre war cars there are some very noisy ones running as was the norm pre war with open or fishtail exhaust systems, these competitors need to review their attitude to noise. Many non motorsport minded people see noise as a real nuisance, especially if they have migrated from city to rural locations. So get a licenced scrutineer to carry out noise level tests, but warn competitors in regulations and again in advance of event they will not be able to compete if fail test, also let objector know you are taking this action. As a MSUK licenced scrutineer I do this frequently at events.

Signed. What's the betting that the Notice is a result of someone moving into the locality and deciding to complain?

We had this recently in our village - some people moved into a house next door to the church and then made strenuous efforts to have the bells silenced!

Restricted use and noise monitoring have been agreed with the council and are already in place; my understanding is this is a result of one individual protesting the agreed terms of use.

Signed! I note from the description of the petition that someone is trying to judicially review the councils decision to come to an agreement. They must have long pockets! JR is not cheap by any means.
