casting BMC engine blocks - squeak - 21-09-2020 Saw this on the web and found it interesting, skip the ad and the first 60 seconds, then enjoy https://youtu.be/3XsGtHJRrbk RE: casting BMC engine blocks - Stuart Giles - 22-09-2020 That was a really interesting set of films, thanks for posting. I have had a fair few bits sand cast by a local foundry, it's still basically the same process. The one big difference is that the lads at the local foundry use a special sand for the cores which is rammed up in the usual way, but when the "raw" sand core is injected with Co2 (Carbon Dioxide) gas, it instantly sets like concrete and is ready to go in the mould. The other smaller difference is that in the film, a flat cap seemed to be the main item of PPE for the workers in foundry. RE: casting BMC engine blocks - Tony Betts - 22-09-2020 wow, they are pattern boxs to be proud of. i think for the blocks i done for the austin 7, there are something like six seperate boxs. and i still have a couple of dave flakes were there are 8 ro 9 boxs to make one block. tony |
