Rubber matting or carpet. - andrew34ruby - 21-06-2020

The paint is soon getting scuffed on the floor inside ruby. What works best, carpet? Or rubber matting cut to size?

Rubber is available in various sizes, and thickness of 3mm or 6mm.

Rubber mats from Seven Workshop , tunnel rubber from Peter Nauls. I assume that they are still available. Original and practical

The tunnel coverings are no longer available I'm afraid. If anyone knows of a supplier who can vacuum-cast them from existing patterns at a sensible cost do let me know - I've tried 6 or 7 now.

Peter.

That's a shame, Peter. I hope someone comes up with another manufacturer for you...

This company is in Smethwick and can do short runs of vacuum cast rubber mouldings. Speak to Paul at Mountford Rubber on 01215650961. (They took over Allied Rubber four years ago).

I have been using 4mm thick fine ribbed mat sourced on ebay at £20 a 2m length x 1m wide delivered from Ark Rubber & resin solutions. There are many suppliers.
This length easily does a SWB tourer. I am trying to velcro some small sections, but the adhesive is not keen on rubber. Abrading the rubber surface helps a bit though.
The alternative on larger pieces is to use carpet circular push on three piece fixings ...Tags hold them on to the rubber & a csk screw onto the steel (I am against Self tappers so am using a woodscrew into a wooden batten glued  to the underside of the panel! Long winded....
With the rubber; measure three times, cut once!

Only problem is that where bolt heads etc stick up it is a bit lumpy!
With carpet, of course it is different:
As Nicholson said "Get your womenfolk to buttonhole it where the carpet frays!" .......Try that today.....!
