Most persons, including marrieds, were then very innocent cf today. The now tame antics disclosed by the Profumo episode were a revelation to many.
Or he could just be proposing.
Modern cars with pathetic ground clearance and susceptible skirts and sumps now preclude access to such places. And there is always someone else in a 4WD already there.
