Engine numbers - Gibbo - 15-04-2020 Hi Can anyone please tell me the year and info on engine number M256468. RE: Engine numbers - Paul Cooper - 15-04-2020 According to Wyatt it around the end of October 1936 Further note, it should be a three bearing engine given the date RE: Engine numbers - "Slack Alice" Simon - 15-04-2020 It is probably a 3 bearing engine, from around October 1936. If so, there should be the head of a bolt high up on the crankcase side, half way along, just below the tappet cover. It may have been modified the take a 2 bearing crank, though. I don't know if this can be checked by looking down the oil filler tube. If 3 bearing, and the engine came from, or is still in a car that hasn't run for years and years, the crank is probably broken. They will often turn over on the handle, even with a broken crank. If it has obviously been looked after, then a good three bearing engine is a much smoother driving experience. Simon RE: Engine numbers - Gibbo - 15-04-2020 Thanks guys ![]() |
