Bacon slicer alternative ? - Ralf Pickel - 22-02-2020 Since the bacon slicer in our car is always a source of regular trouble, would it be possible, as they write, to exchange one with this : Hight torque starter. I guess one would have to source the later starter housing ? Thank you for any advice ! Ralf RE: Bacon slicer alternative ? - Steve Jones - 22-02-2020 Yes you can, Ralf. A common modification but only with a three speed gearbox if your engine has the starter motor in the cockpit. You do need to use the later starter housing. If I have a criticism it's only that they don't 'look' right but most of those I know are in competition cars so that's academic. Steve RE: Bacon slicer alternative ? - Ralf Pickel - 22-02-2020 Steve - thank you for the quick reply. I wouldn´t mind the look if I could get rid of the bacon slicer... :-) So I would have to source the later housing - anyone having one collecting dust ? Ralf RE: Bacon slicer alternative ? - Charles P - 22-02-2020 And if you're feeling like a proper engineer you can bypass the expensive new starter and adapt one from a Rover 75 V6. Charles RE: Bacon slicer alternative ? - Ralf Pickel - 22-02-2020 Did not now about that possibility - they are a bit rare around here ! ;-) But could go that way, but still will need to find that later housing. RE: Bacon slicer alternative ? - Ralf Pickel - 23-02-2020 No - car is already on 12V. Ralf |
