Piston cam ? - stevenm - 14-02-2020

Does anyone know if the early pistons had any cam or barrel on them ?

Also is there technical drawings of the piston available online anywhere?

Cheers

Steve there are post-war drawings for BHB A7 pistons available I'm just struggling to identify where exactly online as they seem not to be in the A7CA archive.

Technical drawings are still on this part of the website Chris...

From observation of original style Austin brand pistons on my car these seem circular but with a slight releived arc reaching to or just below the lowest top ring. Enable the piston to tilt in a fore and aft direction.  Was evident from stain marks. Dunno how applied. Some old after market solid skirt replacements do not have and often show signs of pick up. I used to add with a fine file

Great response and exactly the reason the on-line Archive was set up - you have made my night!

Can not explain how valuable this collection of information is, I had no idea it existed.

I’ve been rummaging about in the dark and you guys just shone a light for me, thank you to whomever helped put this lot together, it’s like a pirates chest of beautifulness.

Thanks for locating them Ruairidh and glad you are enjoying them Steve!

Steve,

are you a member of an Austin Seven Club and, if so, which one please?

The drawings in the link were scanned back in 2003 (under the steerage of Hayden Morgan, A7CA Sec. at that time), following some push to digitise the archive material held by the A7CA - the first efforts were done on my old scanner whilst away with a group of 11 year olds on a school trip (the evenings were long as they rarely slept before 3am, I had planty of time)! My test piece (see here: http://archive.a7ca.org/wp-content/uploads/Notebook1-5.pdf) was one of Stanley Edge's notebooks - I also scanned a number of brochures - these were copied to DVD and a copy was given to each member Club.

The result was rather underwhelming in so far as the idea died a death. That was until the Archive room suffered a flood in 2015 and some material was damaged - this potential disaster acted as smelling salts and, after some (spirited?) lobbying (see here: http://pub25.bravenet.com/forum/static/show.php?usernum=2099944454&frmid=5&msgid=989212&cmd=show&cp=1) a small group headed up by Hugh Barnes and Nick Turley was formed. This team began work on digitising in earnest whilst Chris Charles built a website to house it all (see here:http://archive.a7ca.org/).

Many have contributed since and the Archive is now truly accessible to all.
