Oil filter - Ladybird - 03-01-2020

Hi everybody
We're new to this Austin 7 lark. We have a late 1936 2 seater Opal with a cartridge type oil filter mounted on extended bolts at offside rear of cylinder head.  It looks like a fairly standard filter, probably available from my local motor factor but it has no markings.  Anybody know what it should be??

998cc Mini filters are often used.

Thanks NickB, I'll get a mini filter and see how it compares.

Back in the day quite a few cars were fitted with Crosland 493 filters, but based on your description of the casing I think it more likely Nick is on the money.

Does anybody know which filter is this?

Not the Crosland at least.

Is there not a serial number on the side of the cartridge? Can't quite make it out.

Possibly a Renault filter, but as Chris KC says there is a ref on it so you should be able to cross reference at local parts factors or google the ref number.

The compact filter is a Renault 4/5 with a 3/4unf screw on thread was crossland 259 new no.501745158 or Fram PH 2874 some filter housings use the later 20mm thread filter Renault 5/9/17/21 range, the 20mm will screw on the 3/4 unf filter housing but its a loose fit so make sure you get the correct filter. Terry.
